Common Problems and Solutions for the Mack E7 E-TECH Engine

on

The Mack E7 E-TECH is an electronic engine, yet it is more reliable than many electronic engines out there.

However, the engine has some common problems:

Injector Issues: While using this engine, you may encounter some injector problems such as stuck injector tips, no fuel, poor fuel delivery to the combustion chamber, or broken injector tips. These are the most common issues you could have with the engine injectors.

This is not a difficult problem to solve, as you would just need to replace the injectors. But if the injectors are not injecting fuel, you should check if the current is traveling to open up the injectors.

Engine misfiring: if you encounter your engine misfiring, you should check the injectors. You need to ensure that the injectors have current from the ECM to keep functioning.Restrictions of fuel supply within the fuel system are another reason for misfiring. Check the fuel filter to see if it’s clogged.

*Remember that this is an electronic engine, you need to ensure that the electrical components receive sufficient current from the ECU.

Poor fuel efficiency is another problem found in this engine. In case you encounter this issue, you should replace the injectors. It could be that the injectors are supplying excess diesel to the combustion chamber.

Fuel leaks can be another reason for increasing fuel consumption. An increase in fuel consumption can cause black smoke. The Mack E7 ETECH can sometimes emit black smoke as a result of excessive fuel supply to the combustion chamber. The fuel received is too much so it can’t be burned by the allowed air in the cylinder which leads to incomplete combustion.

Rough idling is also a common problem in this engine. In most cases, the rough idling in the Mack E7 E-TECH engine is caused by electronic components. Before you replace any mechanical components, get an electrician who is familiar with the engine to diagnose the engine. You also need to have a look at your camshaft as it can be another reason for poor idling.

RPM Issue: The rpm sensor is located at the flywheel. It is there to read the rpm of the engine by monitoring the rotation of the flywheel, which then sends a signal to the ECU. But sometimes this rpm sensor fails. Why?

  • a. Worn sensor: Tear and wear could affect the sensor which needs to be replaced.
  • b. Incorrect settings: if the sensor is not properly set, it could be too far or close to the flywheel to read it.
  • c. No current on the sensor. If the sensor does not receive current, there is no way it can function.

You need to know what the problem of the sensor is in order to know how to handle the situation.

What about the camshaft? The camshaft can sometimes give away, which means it can start to malfunction. During troubleshooting, don’t miss checking the camshaft.

These are the common problems of E7 E-TECH engines.
