Mack E6 2 Valves vs 4 Valves

on

In this article, I will tell you the difference between the Mack E6 2 valves and 4 valves engine.

The Mack E6 with two valves has two valves on each cylinder, one intake and one exhaust. This means that the 2 Valve Mack E6 engine which has 6 cylinders, carries 12 valves.

While the Mack E6 with 4 valves has 4 valves on each cylinder, 2 intakes, and 2 exhaust valves, and carries a total of 24 valves.

The 2 Valves E6 Engine

The 2-valve engine has the advantage of a very simple design, which makes it cheaper to maintain. For example, if you need to overhaul your cylinder head,  you would need to replace the valves, which means you would need to replace 12 valves rather than 24 valves.

Therefore, it is considered cheaper to maintain than the 24 valves.

Another notable advantage is that it has fewer components than the 4 valves E6. In the 4 valves, you’ll find something called a valve bridge. The valves link the two similar valves to each other. It’s the valve bridge that links the 2 intake valves together, and another one links the 2 exhaust valves together.

So, having fewer moving components makes the engine less prone to damage.

The 2 valves E6 has its limitations. One of them is limited airflow. 2 Valves per cylinder means there is only one intake valve to suck air into the engine. That limits airflow to the engine which limits its power.

The more air the engine can generate the more fuel it can burn. The more fuel it can burn, the more power and torque the engine possesses.

The 2-valve E6 is more suitable for low-speed applications such as construction equipment and buses.

So in a nutshell, the 2 valves has less combustion.

The 4 valves E6 Engine

This engine has 4 valves on each cylinder, which means; 2 intakes and 2 exhaust valves.

The 2 intake valves are linked together with a valve bridge. The two exhaust valves are also linked together with the valve bridge.

Let’s talk about the positives of these 4 valves on each cylinder:

With the 2 intake valves, the engine has sufficient airflow. The 2 intake valves allow more air to combust more fuel, which results in more power. The more air in the combustion chamber the more fuel the engine can burn which means more power is generated.

With high combustion, the engine makes more rpm and increases the performance of the engine.

You should also note that with 4 valves, you have better fuel efficiency because there is more than enough airflow to burn the fuel injected into the cylinder, which results in fuel efficiency. Therefore, the engine could be used in different applications such as trucks, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, etc.

Let’s talk about the negative side of 4 valves.

This engine is more expensive to maintain than the 2 valves. When it is time to change the valve, you need to replace all 24 valves, which is more expensive.

At ProDieselParts you can find all the parts for your Mack E6 engine at the best prices.

The design of the engine is more complex than the 2 valves engine. Some mechanics find it difficult to adjust the valve due to the presence of a valve bridge.

These are the positives and negatives of E6 2 and 4 valves popularly called 12 and 24 valves.
