The Mack E7 E-Tech is an engine with so much advanced technology. The Injectors are controlled electronically. It is an upgraded version of the mechanical E7.
In this article, I will explain and list the components that must be replaced during the engine overhaul.
ProDieselParts offers all the parts you need to overhaul your Mack E7 Engine.
1. The gaskets: This is one of the components that must be replaced because it cannot be reused. When you disassemble the engine, most of the gaskets, such as the head gasket, sump gasket, and valve cover gasket must be replaced.
It is more economical to buy the complete overhaul gasket sets than to buy each gasket so that you can replace all the gaskets.
The overhaul gasket set includes the exhaust gasket, inlet gasket, and other important gasket that you may need.
2. Front and rear oil seal: This is another must-change component. During the engine overhaul, you must replace the front and rear oil seals. The oil seal helps to prevent oil leaks. It would be bad for the engine to be leaking oil after the overhaul is done. Therefore, these two seals must be replaced.
3. Piston Rings: One of the symptoms you notice before overhauling your engine is oil burning. One major cause of oil burning is worn piston rings.
Therefore the piston rings must be replaced. The piston rings help to seal the compression and prevent oil from burning. So, during the engine overhaul, the piston rings must be replaced.
4. The pistons: Although many think it is not necessary to replace the pistons, in most cases the pistons widen, which affects the piston crown.
So it is wise to replace the piston with other worn engine components.
5. The liner: The liner is the cylinder wall. That is the smooth wall the piston is traveling up and down. After the engine has run for a very long time, the cylinder ovality occurs. When this happens, it is necessary to replace the liner, too, so that the cylinder wall can remain smooth.
6. Crankshaft bearings: The crankshaft bearings provide a smooth surface for the crankshaft to run. As the engine is rotating, the crankshaft bearings are also wearing which requires replacement during the engine overhauling.
All the crankshaft bearings must be replaced including the thrust washers. Even if the bearings look good, you must replace them.
7. The cylinder head accessories: You don’t need to replace the cylinder head unless there is a major defect on it. Rather, you can replace the cylinder head accessories such as spring, valve seal, valve keeper, etc.
You also need to resurface the cylinder head during the engine overhauling.
8. The Connecting Rod components: You may decide to replace the conrod, however, you can still replace the conrod components such as the bushing at the small end. Another component of the connecting rod you need to replace is the bolts. The conrod bolts must be replaced.
9. All the filters: You must replace all the filters including the oil filters, fuel filters, and air filters. None of it must be reused, rather it must be replaced.
Above mentioned are components that must be replaced, below are the components you need to check if you can still reuse or replace;
a. Crankshaft
b. Injectors
c. Injection Pump
d. Connecting Rod
e. Turbocharger
F. Oil pump
g. Water pump
These are components that can be reused after the engine has been properly checked.
